Social Action Tikkun Olam

Tikkun Olam

Temple values Tikkun Olam.
Translated, Tikkun Olam means the healing and repairing of the world – a communal obligation of the Jewish people.
The mission of Tikkun Olam at Temple De Hirsch Sinai is to fully engage the membership of our synagogue in the sacred work of repairing our world through the performance of ma'asim tovim (good deeds). Members of all ages are invited to participate in a variety of social action projects throughout the year.

Tikkun Olam Council
Get more involved with Tikkun Olam programs at Temple and join our growing Tikkun Olam Council, where we are currently planning and managing projects.
Whether you are interested in volunteering one time or on a more regular connection, we welcome the assistance.
We are a warm and fun group where everyone is welcome! It's fun and a terrific way to connect with Temple.
Please contact Rabbi Cook at acook@tdhs-nw.org for more information.

“It is not what one says but rather what one does that makes all the difference in the world.” - Pirkei Avot 1:17

Current Tikkun Olam Projects

Mitzvah Days. A congregation-wide community service event, where hundreds of volunteers with loving hands and willing hearts go out into the community to make a difference.

Caring Community Committee. We provide meals, wheels and other services for Temple members in need.

Hazmanah. As part of the Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) “Just Congregations” effort, we are partnering with Sound Alliance, a community-organizing agency, to work on community issues of concern.

Women’s Shelter. Each night, Temple provides ten homeless women in Seattle with a safe and warm place to stay and breakfast in the morning.

Past
Tikkun Olam projects have included:

Tent City. Temple volunteers prepared meals and collected food and clothing for local homeless encampments.

Congregation for Kids. We collected backpacks and school supplies for needy children in our community.

Tzedakah
Want to help out, but not sure what to give?
Tzedakah boxes are located in the foyers of our Bellevue and Seattle locations. Money collected supports the programs of the Tikkun Olam Council.
