Welcome to the Temple De Hirsch Sinai Library
What's New at the Library?
A Word from the Librarian:
Summer is still here! It’s not too late to add some great books to your summer reading list. We received several new books in June. In addition to books purchased by the library, the Amazon Temple store has been truly successful for us and I want to thank those who’ve purchased books from the wish list. We have two fabulous new cookbooks: Heirloom Cookbook, Recipes Handed Down by Jewish Mothers and Modern Recipes from Daughters and Friends and The Book of New Israeli Food : a culinary journey. Miriam Lerner Satz compiled and edited the recipes in Heirloom Cookbook. Both Sephardic and Ashkenazi cultures are represented, with many traditional as well as modern recipes, and all are very straightforward. Black and white family photos are interspersed throughout. The other cookbook, by Janna Gur, has a totally different feel and look. It’s focused on fresh, contemporary Israeli preparations with full color photographs of Israeli markets and foods. About The Library
TDHS houses over 10,000 volumes covering a wide range of Judaic topics including Bible, spirituality, history, holidays, cooking, fiction and much more. Patrons throughout the greater Seattle area make use of this extensive collection by visiting one of our two locations – the beautiful, historic Capitol Hill campus or the bright, informal Bellevue campus.
Over one third of our collection contains the Benjamin Zukor Children’s Library in both locations with picture books, juvenile fiction, teen fiction and a variety of non-fiction topics. In addition to our circulating books and non-circulating historic works, we have musical CDs, periodicals and audio books. Our reference section encompasses the Bible, Talmud, Jewish encyclopedias, Hebrew/English dictionaries and many other resources.
We serve a diverse population including Religion School students discovering the joy of reading for the first time; Temple members looking for the next great Jewish book; and scholars, students, writers and others within our congregation and throughout the community.
