Bridge Family Religion School 5771
The Vision
TDHS and the Bridge Family Religion School provide the highest quality in Jewish education and balanced immersion in Jewish community for contemporary residents of the Northwest. Our K-12 education forges a strong foundation in tradition, faith and practice within a supplementary school context. Our Midweek Hebrew language program cultivates ability to decode and fluency of participation in worship with a fundamental grasp of levels of meaning. Our life-long learning track instills a passion for ongoing growth and commitment.

The Challenge
During the past 8 ½ years, much has changed at TDHS. Worship, Social Justice programs, Adult Education and an overall sense of excitement have contributed to a markedly revitalized spirit for existing congregants, and attracted 800+ new families to our congregational family. The key challenge has been our Religion School program. While possessing a sound, stable structure and foundation, with many successful components, a more consistent level of quality and integrity has eluded us. Despite efforts to implement creative, innovative and non-traditional approaches, we have yet to attain the aspirations reflective of this historic, flagship synagogue. We believe that more intensive rabbinic involvement, coupled with educational initiatives targeted to the unique cultures of each of our campuses, will begin to set us on the path toward measurable academic excellence.

The Concept
This moment of significant transition provides a rare and potent opportunity to re-evaluate the elements of our program in a holistic and systematic way. We can embrace this chance to address the ongoing and unique demands posed by a dual campus educational program, envisioning models for leadership and responsiveness that transcend the older approaches that remain relevant to one-site schools.

3 Rabbis
The essential meaning and role of rabbi is “teacher.” Education is an inherent component of the rabbinic mission and is the embodiment of both Jewish tradition and the foundational ideal of learning. The 3 rabbis will be the joint Directors of Education, physically and visibly present throughout the school and program, focused on broad curricular vision, teacher training, pedagogic direction and adult education. Our new structure retains the strong presence of our clergy team, working in partnership with dedicated principals on each campus, along with skilled teachers who share our vision of TDHS as a congregation of learners. We hope that you and your children will join us as we embark on this chanukat chinuch, our rededication to education.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES
In addition to Sunday Morning T’filah, students are encouraged to participate in all Temple worship services. Each grade will assist in leading a Sunday service. Grade level worship services take place on Shabbat. Potlucks are frequently held for families in the participating grade after the service.

BAR/BAT MITZVAH
Religion School at Temple De Hirsch Sinai. All 3rd through 7th Grade students participate in our Hebrew language program (mid-week) in addition to Sunday Religion School attendance.

Approximately two years prior to the student’s 13th birthday, parents will receive a Bar/Bat Mitzvah date request form. About 6 months before the scheduled Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, students begin an intensive period of study with members of the clergy. This training is in addition to the Religion School/Hebrew language program.

Attendance at worship services twice a month is a requirement for the year leading to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Additionally, students are asked to complete a community service project as part of the B’nai Mitzvah experience.

SCHOLARSHIPS
We are very fortunate at TDHS to have a well-funded scholarship program for those in need.  Our Scholarship Committee reviews requests in many areas: school tuition; trips to ; youth group day trips and conventions; summer camp; teen education and leadership development through the URJ/HUC.  Our Temple’s Marty Bridge Camp Scholarship directly supports those wishing to attend Camp Kalsman .
