Learning Bridge Family Religion School

Religion School

The Bridge Family Religion School forges a strong foundation in tradition, faith, and practice for children pre-K through 12th grade. Led by Rabbi Daniel Septimus, our Director of Congregational Learning, we seek to instill a passion for ongoing growth and commitment to Jewish learning and our community.

Reminder and request from the principals: If your child has to leave early, please include a signed permission note. For the safety of your children, we cannot dismiss students until we receive permission.

Please refer to the links below for our Religion School Parent Handbook and Calendar for pertinent dates and information.

PEP (Parent Enrichment Program) Schedule for February 26
New schedule coming soon.

TEMPLE DE HIRSCH SINAI & CAMP KALSMAN EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP

Over the last six years, URJ Camp Kalsman has enriched Jewish life in the Pacific Northwest as the camp’s programs have engaged hundreds of young people in Jewish learning and living. Our Temple has partnered with Camp Kalsman from the beginning, guiding its development and supporting its growth. In fact, over the last few years, Temple has sent more young people to camp than any congregation in the nation, which is a testament to the power of Jewish camping and our synagogue’s commitment to this mode of education.

Beginning in 2012, we are one of six partnerships in North America that have been blessed with a rare and significant opportunity. Thanks to a generous multi-year grant from the Avi Chai and Jim Joseph Foundations, as a program of the Foundation of Jewish Camp, we are able to join with Camp Kalsman in hiring a talented, leading-edge Jewish educator. This shared position will encompass access to and implementation of the most current methods of Jewish learning. The new educator will reside at Camp Kalsman during the summer, serving as the Director of Education, and at our synagogue during the school year, supervised by Rabbi Septimus and working directly with our Religion School program. We are fortunate to receive outside grant funding for this position, which will enhance our existing resources and augment our efforts to engage your children toward forging a lifelong Jewish identity.

This new curriculum development role is but one component of an ongoing Chanukat Chinuch (rededication and restructuring) of our multi-generational curriculum. At a time in which the challenges of engaging a new generation coincide with an economy of constrained resources and the ongoing obligation to secure the next generation of Jews, our evolving approach to congregational learning will ensure its relevance and effectiveness into the future. The new educator, serving as an Assistant Director of Congregational Learning, will bring expertise in experiential education, specifically focusing on expanding family education opportunities and informal Jewish techniques in our school while serving as a mentor to the entire Religion School faculty.

As always, our deepest appreciation for your faith in our vision and support of our efforts.

L’Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Weiner • Rabbi Daniel Septimus • Monte Levinso

RELIGION SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Rishonim
: Pre–K Program
Meaning “first”, Rishonim offers 4-year olds a sample of Sunday School and allows children to experience Judaism through taste, touch, smell, sight and sound. Experienced early childhood educators will bring Judaism to life by incorporating Jewish values and traditions into the everyday life of the child and their family. Rishonim is free and open to all Temple families. Monthly classes will be offered on our Seattle and Bellevue campuses. For more information, please contact Gayle Carrol at 206.315.7426.

Sunday School
For grades K–5, Religion School begins with a T’filah service, which parents are encouraged to attend, and provides grade-level class time with appropriate curriculum topics covering Judaic studies.

Parent Enrichment Program “PEP”
While their children attend Religion School on Sunday mornings, we offer enrichment sessions for parents to continue their learning and to connect with each other.

Mid-Week Hebrew
For grades 3–7, our mid-week Hebrew language program cultivates the ability to decode and improve fluency of participation in worship with a fundamental grasp of levels of meaning.

Kesher Program
Students in grades 6-7 begin to understand how their actions and deeds shape their world Jewishly.

B’nai Mitzvah Preparation
In their journey to becoming adult members of the Jewish community, students participate in this two-year program, which includes personal reflection and intensive study, plus one-on-one learning with educators and clergy.
