The Mitzvah Kitchen returns to Temple De Hirsch Sinai Bellevue on April 14 after a successful pilot program last fall. We bake challah and cookies, and it’s appropriate for bakers of all ages.
We need help with the following tasks:
- Making challah dough at home and bringing it to Temple for braiding and baking (we have a super-easy, no-knead recipe that we’ll provide)
- Making challah dough at Temple on Wednesday mornings
- Braiding and baking challah on Wednesday afternoons during Hebrew School (4:30-6 pm)
- Making cookie dough and packaging it for sale (Wednesday afternoons)
- Baking cookies and packaging them for sale (Wednesday afternoons)
- Selling cookies (Wednesdays after Hebrew school)
- Selling cookie dough (Sunday mornings in Bellevue)
- Delivering challah (Thursdays and Fridays)
Challah loaves that are baked in the Mitzvah Kitchen are delivered to individuals who are new to our congregation, those who have just welcomed a new baby, those who have recently experienced an illness or hospitalization, those who have recently experienced a loss, and other families in transition. We need your help to identify possible challah recipients.
Cookies from the Mitzvah Kitchen are sold warm after Wednesday Hebrew School, or ready-to-bake on Sunday mornings. Proceeds support the projects of the Mitzvah Kitchen.
